Secrets are killing me

June 22nd, 2014 at 03:12 am

I can't tell our friends in real life because it's too painful to hard we are struggling with trying to relocate and fail. It makes me feel ridiculous because they think I'm talking about a dream that will never happen. And even more stupid when my DH's been on interviews about 1x/year and nothings come of it. I think my friends think moving is a pipe dream for us. Something we talk about but never actually do.

So as you know we are doing it in 24 months. In June 2016 we are moving no matter what. But right now we are still looking at jobs. My DH had a phone interview 2x in the past week and a coffee interview this sunday. One position with a university and the other with a company. Neither are exactly what he wants. Academia has its own issues including pay and tenure or lack there of. Industry well the position pays extremely well more than double what he makes now but is a lot of traveling.

But like I said that's putting cart before horse. Get offer then see what our options are. See if they would even in person interview and make an actual offer. But it's hard not to dream or desire to move.

For me I'm also not telling friends I'm looking into doing something different for work. I'm sure I'll get a lot of "you should just go back to what you did" and keep it simple. But I don't want to. So I'm going to look further into being an enrolled agent.

Dinner was yummy. Fresh strawberries we picked today @ $3.50/lb. Fun time with kiddos. Smoked pork ribs with romaine salad with feta, croutons, strawberries, pecans, and corn. Also made angel food cake to go with strawberries.

LAL, Life is too short to not pursue your goals. If you think that the best place for your family is some place different than where you are right now, that is a worthy goal and decision the deserves respect and value. I don't think I'd try to hide the fact that this is what you want to do; and "pshaw" to anyone who dares criticize your choices as "pipe dreams". Have you seen the video on youtube for Magic's song "Rude"? GO watch it. I have a friend who has battled cancer four times, and he lost half his face along with it. He was scheduled for reconstructive facial surgery and during pre-op testing they found the cancer has returned to the lower left jaw. He can't have anymore chemo or radiation, only chance is bone marrow transplant. I was so sad after hearing that. And then I saw that video. And it made me realize that you always need to be nice, kind, and say "Yes". So plan on saving as much as you can, keep pursuing those leads for employment, and do what you want. I think you will be very successful in your choices. Smile

Thank you Laura I'll think about it. We can't share with some friends because of DH's job. But it's sort of like not sharing being mustachian/LBYM.

Keep following your dream -- just make sure you have a safety net, too! I wouldn't make a move without a job -- I've known others who have done that and it always takes longer than they imagined to get employed. If you have a really good emergency fund, that may get you through. That said, I totally understand wanting to live where you want to live. I've been through that, too!

I would take the job with travel for 400K in a heart beat. That would enable you to pay off 400K house (which can be had in a low cost of living area) in 2 years. Or, put together with your equity from a current place, afford you a very nice house, all paid off, in 2 years. In addition, perks such as frequent flyer miles and free hotel rooms for your family. Or you can book free tickets for your family to come visit you. Or join your husband on his trips when he goes to nice locations.

CB I do worry about the job mostly. Nika, I considered that but I don't think my DH wants to travel. He'll do it occasionally but it's not his cup of tea. Besides I think it's not to fun places but rather place like cincinatti or something.
