another vaccuum

August 20th, 2015 at 09:02 pm

Still love my dyson cordless. But we moved into a house full of carpet. Ugh. Oh well it's a rental. But I'm not sure our cordless will do the whole house. So I'm considering $200 dyson DC 41 from Amazon or $210 canister DC 39 from overstock. Both are refurbished vacuums.

I hesitate to buy a canister but a lot of people swear by them. They say they are easier to use on stairs.

Do people have canister or upright vacuums? Which do you prefer and why?

My first reaction was why not try using your cordless Dyson, vacuuming 1/3 each session but I have a Dyson upright and live in a 4 level condo. I vacuum in two session, always beginning in the last room done in previous session. I find the bedrooms hardly generate any debris in the canister, it's almost entirely from entry, public rooms like living rm and kitchen.

Upright. But have never tried a canister vacuum. I would actually rather have MORE carpet in our rental, the wood floors show so much cat hair! Smile

We've had a canister for 10+ years. Would never go back. Lighter, easier to maneuver, easy to empty (no bags), easy to use on stairs and easy to switch between hard floor and carpet. Maybe vacuum technology has improved on uprights, but when we switched I found it to be a substantial upgrade.

Though I have an upright now, I prefer a canister. Yes, much easier on the stairs. Another consideration--with kids, I'd go for the canister, too. Isn't your oldest about four? Pretty soon you probably won't mind if she tries her hand at vacuuming. She'll be able to do it with a canister, maybe not with the upright. My son moved seamlessly from vacuuming in a "serious play" manner to effective, helpful use of the canister.

I like canister vacs - easier to maneuver and store.
